The Ordinary Session of the Council of Ministers of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) kicked off at the New Parliament Building in Hampden, with a focus on reviewing the status of implementation of previous Council and Summit decisions.
In his opening remarks, SADC Executive Secretary, His Excellency Elias Magosi, emphasized the importance of peace, security, and response to climate change in ensuring socio-political and economic growth for the regional bloc. He highlighted the precarious security and humanitarian situation in Eastern DRC, reaffirming SADC's commitment to the country's independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.¹
Chairperson of the SADC Council of Ministers, Professor Amon Murwira, called on member states to take ownership of the regional bloc's operations, citing the need for sufficient financial support to ensure the effectiveness of SADC's projects and structures.
The meeting, which was preceded by the SADC Standing Committee of Senior Officials, will also review progress made in implementing the Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan 2020-2030.
