Zimbabwean sprint sensation Tapiwanashe Makarawu was crowned Sportsperson of the Year at the prestigious Annual National Sports Awards ceremony in Harare on Sunday. 

This recognition solidifies his status as one of the country’s finest athletes, celebrating his incredible performances on the global stage and his unwavering commitment to the sport.

Makarawu’s journey has been filled with memorable milestones. One of the most remarkable was the City of Hobbs, New Mexico, declaring September 3, 2024, as "Tapiwanashe Makarawu Day" in his honour, following his impressive performance at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

 Adding to his accolades, he recently clinched a silver medal at the Africa Senior Athletics Championships in Cameroon, reflecting his relentless dedication and the steadfast support of his loved ones and fans.

Speaking to Zim Now, Makarawu shared his emotions about the award: "I’m so grateful for this recognition. I’m super happy and thankful to God for the blessings He always brings into my life. This recognition means a lot to me and my family as well.

" It makes me so happy to see my parents and siblings happy, and I always thank God for that. Being an Olympic finalist, having a day named after me in a foreign country, and receiving many other blessings—I’m truly grateful for everything God has done in my life."
