Zimbabwean strongwoman Chido Maenzanise has once again cemented her status as the continent’s powerhouse after clinching gold at the Eastrand Strongest competition held last Saturday in South Africa.

Maenzanise competed against 12 other athletes in the fiercely contested Open Category, emerging victorious and proudly raising the Zimbabwean flag high.

Expressing her excitement after the win, Maenzanise said she was overwhelmed with gratitude for everyone who made her journey and success possible.

“I’m feeling happy and excited because I was the only black woman competing. At first, I wasn’t comfortable, and I didn’t do well in my first performance,” she said.

“But then I remembered that I wasn’t just doing this for myself — I was doing it for my beloved nation, Zimbabwe. I was the only one representing the country, so I had to push hard. And I’m happy I brought home the gold.”

She noted that she had entered the competition “well trained and well prepared.”

Events at the tournament included lever deadlift, vehicle push (scrum style), circus dumbbell, dinner stones, and the log ladder.

Maenzanise’s triumph adds to her growing legacy as Africa’s strongest woman, and a trailblazer for Zimbabwean athletes on the international stage.
