In a move that seems to be flattening the wheel of the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC), Fifa president Gianni Infantino has shown that the world football mother body still recognises the Felton Kamambo administration.
Kamambo, who turned 52 today, received a birthday congratulatory message, on a Fifa letterhead, addressed to him as “Dear President” in obvious reference to his presidency at the Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa).
The salutations seem to say a lot, Infantino went on to say he looks forward to working with Kamambo, who was fired by the SRC, along with his executive.
“I wish you a wonderful day with your loved ones, and I sincerely hope we will continue working together for the development and growth of this beautiful game that unites us all,” reads part of the letter.
Friends of the Warriors Secretary-General Zivanai Muwashu said the letter speaks volumes on which path Zimbabwean football should take for the team to be readmitted.
“This letter shows that Fifa still recognises Kamambo, the letter gave us a hint on the path which we should take for the sake of our football,” Muwashu said.
Fifa has insisted that the SRC should reinstate Kamambo and his lieutenants.
The Zifa board, led by Gift Banda, has tried to no avail to seek an audience from the football mother body.
Zimbabwe has since missed opportunities to play international football following the ban.
