Chiefs lead chargeof former giants eyeing PSL return

The ZIFA Division One leagues are buzzing with early season excitement, and a familiar name is leading the charge in the Southern Region: Bulawayo Chiefs. The former Premier Soccer League (PSL) side, affectionately known as the "Twitter Boys," have made their intentions crystal clear, maintaining a perfect 100% winning record in their first three matches.

Amakhosi, determined to make a swift return to the top flight, have shown no signs of complacency. Their latest victory, a hard-fought 1-0 triumph in a highly anticipated Bulawayo derby against Bosso 90, underscores their early dominance and sends a strong message to their rivals.

However, the race for PSL promotion in the Southern Region is far from a one-horse affair. Another former PSL campaigner, Hwange, are hot on their heels. The "Colliery," showcasing their firepower, demolished Zebra Revolution to secure the second spot with an impressive seven points. Last year's runners-up, Casymn, have also enjoyed a positive start, notching two victories in their opening three fixtures, including a 2-0 win over newcomers Megawatt.

The Central Region is witnessing a fascinating battle at the summit, with another ex-PSL team, Sheasham, setting the early pace with a flawless nine points. Right behind them, boasting the same points tally but trailing on goal difference, are the ambitious "money bags" Hardrock. Sheasham edged out FC Platinum's developmental side 2-1, while Hardrock secured a comfortable 2-0 victory over West Nicholson, setting the stage for a compelling race for the sole promotion slot.

The Northern Region has already delivered its share of surprises and thrilling encounters. Much-talked-about N'ombeyawora stumbled in their opening match, held to a 1-1 draw by Black Rhinos. The weekend's highlight, however, belonged to Zambezi Gas, who unleashed a stunning 5-1 goal fest against Ali Sundowns. Adding to the unpredictable nature of the league, former PSL side Harare City suffered an early setback, losing 2-1 to Karoi.

In the Eastern Region, Destiny announced their promotion aspirations with a commanding 3-0 victory over Derpotivo La Murambinda. St Paul's Musami also started strong, securing a 2-0 win against Manica Diamonds Under 19. The early results suggest a tightly contested Eastern Region, with several teams vying for the coveted ticket to the top tier.

As the ZIFA Division One seasons progress across the country, the early frontrunners have laid down their markers. The desire to return to the PSL is palpable amongst these former giants, promising an enthralling and fiercely competitive campaign as they navigate the long and challenging road back to the top of Zimbabwean football.
