Zimbabwe Cricket has expressed profound sorrow over the tragic and untimely death of Arjun Menon, a former Singapore international cricketer and respected coach, who was serving as operations manager for Cricket Malawi at the time of his passing.
Menon, 48, was brutally murdered in Blantyre, Malawi, on 11 May 2025—a shocking incident that has sent ripples through the global cricketing community.
“This is a devastating loss to the cricketing fraternity, not just in Africa but around the world,” ZC said in a statement.
Menon was known for his unwavering passion for the game. He began his cricket journey as a wicketkeeper for Singapore and later became a transformative coach and mentor in countries including Chile, Botswana, Indonesia, and his native Singapore.
“In every corner of the world where Arjun worked, he inspired young cricketers with his knowledge, energy and infectious love for the sport,” ZC remarked.
In Malawi, Menon played a pivotal role in revitalizing the sport, helping to earn Cricket Malawi three prestigious accolades at the Malawi Sport Awards. His leadership was widely credited with advancing the game and nurturing local talent.
ZC also highlighted Menon’s contributions to regional cricket development. “Zimbabwe Cricket was privileged to work closely with him on various development projects. He was instrumental in facilitating the participation of Malawian teams and players in our domestic competitions.”
Remembered not just as a cricket visionary but also as a compassionate and hardworking individual, Menon leaves behind a legacy rooted in mentorship, collaboration, and the global development of the sport.
“Arjun was more than a cricket man – he was a kind and affable soul whose presence enriched all who worked with him,” ZC added.
Zimbabwe Cricket extended its heartfelt condolences to Menon’s wife, family, friends, and cricketing communities worldwide, mourning a man who dedicated his life to the growth and spirit of the game.
