Simba Bhora head coach Joel Luphahla has revealed plans to bolster his squad with a proven striker during the upcoming June transfer window, as the defending champions look to sharpen their attack and defend their Premier Soccer League title.
The Shamva-based side, currently third on the table with 19 points—four behind leaders MWOS—have found the back of the net just nine times in 11 matches this season. Alarmingly, four of those goals came in a single match against Manica Diamonds, and they have failed to score in six games.
Luphahla, who took charge at the start of the season following a major squad overhaul, admitted that his team is still a work in progress. However, he insists that a reliable goal scorer is key if they are to compete both domestically and in the upcoming CAF Champions League.
“We are heading into the transfer window, and we definitely need someone to help lighten the load on Isaskar Gurirab,” Luphahla said. “There’s always pressure on foreign players to deliver goals, but we need other options to support him.”
Namibian forward Isaskar Gurirab, who was signed to replace Tymon Machope after his move to Scottland, has struggled with inconsistency, managing just three goals so far. Another new arrival, William Manondo, has been side-lined frequently due to injuries.
The departures of key players like Soccer Star of the Year Walter Musona, Tymon Machope, and Mthokozisi Msebe have left Simba Bhora thin in attacking depth. Msebe and Machope were instrumental in last season’s title run, contributing crucial goals.
Luphahla’s squad rebuild saw the arrival of nearly 15 new players, with only four regulars from last season retained—mainly the backline. The coach acknowledges the challenges of integrating a new team but remains optimistic.
“We’ve played 11 games, and while we’re not great, we’re not doing too badly either,” he noted. “It’s not easy to bring in so many players and expect instant results. It disrupts everything. But the fans and club owners want results, and we understand the pressure.”
Last weekend’s 2-0 defeat to Scottland only amplified the need for reinforcements, with Gurirab missing several key chances. Simba Bhora will be looking to bounce back in Matchday 12 when they host struggling Triangle at Wadzanayi Stadium.
