Zimbabwe’s financial markets took a major step forward with the listing of Eagle Real Estate Investment Trust (Eagle REIT) on the Victoria Falls Stock Exchange (VFEX) on 16 May 2025.
The new listing introduces a fresh investment avenue into the country’s real estate sector and marks the first REIT to be traded on the VFEX.
A total of 137,553,752 Eagle REIT units have been listed by way of introduction and will begin trading on 19 May 2025. The units will be open to trading by the general public, institutional investors, and professionals.
The listing was made possible through Fidelity Life Asset Management, which structured the REIT as a vehicle to mobilise funding for infrastructure and property development.
ZSE Group Chairperson Mrs. Caroline Sandura said the development reflects growing investor trust in Zimbabwe’s capital markets.
“Each new listing is a vote of confidence, not just in our infrastructure and regulatory framework, but also in VFEX’s potential as a regional investment destination,” she said.
Minister of Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion, Professor Mthuli Ncube, described the introduction of the REIT as a clear sign of progress in Zimbabwe’s financial sector. He said the move aligns with the government’s goal to attract both domestic and international investment.
“The listing of a REIT—an innovative asset class—is evidence of the maturing nature of our financial sector. It is aligned with our drive to mobilise resources towards infrastructure development and economic diversification,” said Prof. Ncube.
He urged regulators, pension funds, banks, and development financiers to support the REIT framework as a long-term financing solution for Zimbabwe’s economic growth.
The Eagle REIT will trade under the symbol EAGLE.VX , with ISIN ZW VX 0903 0011 . Investors are encouraged to consult their stockbrokers or financial advisors for guidance on participating in the market.
The listing is expected to deepen the VFEX’s product offering, improve market liquidity, and attract new capital flows into the real estate sector.
