Epworth Development Gains Momentum Under Mhetu’s Leadership

Development is steadily taking shape in Epworth North under the leadership of Member of Parliament Zivai Mhetu, with residents expressing gratitude for the progress made so far, particularly in road infrastructure.

In a feedback meeting held last year, the people of Epworth agreed that roads should be prioritized using Constituency Development Funds (CDF). Although the community had hoped to see 10 kilometers of road rehabilitated, only 1.5 kilometers were developed. MP Mhetu explained that although funds were received in time, the project faced an unexpected hurdle—the council machinery needed for the work was found to be non-functional. As a result, machinery had to be hired, significantly increasing costs and limiting the coverage.

Despite this challenge, residents have applauded the efforts made by their MP, saying he has shown real commitment to his promises. "Him coming back to the community and developing like what he promised shows that he cares for us and knows why he is in office," said Theresa Kasangwa, a resident of Ward 7.

During his latest feedback meeting held on June 7, Mhetu once again turned to the community for input on how next year’s CDF allocation should be used.

The overwhelming response from residents was to continue with road development, a foundation they believe is crucial to further growth. “We can’t develop Epworth while we don’t have roads. For development to take place, we need roads first,” said Christopher Chipfunde, voicing a sentiment shared by many.

Other priorities were also raised, including the need for electricity in schools and residential areas, access to clean water, and the long-awaited issuance of title deeds. Mhetu assured the community that work on these issues is already in motion. “As for the title deeds, I’m fighting until everyone has their own. And not forgetting ZESA in schools—by December, one or two schools will have electricity,” he stated.

With over 350 people in attendance, the meeting ended with a strong show of support for MP Mhetu’s ongoing development efforts. Residents say they are not only hopeful but confident that their community is on the right track under his leadership..p.
