The City of Harare says it will resuscitate night door-to-door refuse collection in the Central Business District on12 December, 2022.

In a statement, council said the development is meant to increase operational efficiencies as well as ensuring the cleanliness of the City.

“Refuse collection teams will operate from 2100hrs to 0500hrs on a daily basis,” reads the statement.

The council added that people must cooperate with the refuse collectors.

“All stakeholders are being encouraged to facilitate a smooth transition of operating times for the refuse collection service by ensuring that:

• Sanitary lane gates are manned and accessible by the refuse collection teams.

• Provision of spare keys for bin cages on properties where bin cages are in use to the refuse collection teams.

• Security personnel may also avail waste receptacles to the refuse collection teams after hours,” reads the statement.

The council also encouraged stakeholders to ensure waste is collected from their properties by the City of Harare refuse teams and desist from availing waste to informal waste pickers who have a tendency of dumping waste in sanitary lanes.
