A 34-year-old man from Epworth was arrested after being caught red-handed fleeing with stolen electronics and cash following a violent house robbery in Gletwin, Shawasha.

Brighton Norman Chagwiza appeared before the Harare Magistrate’s Court on robbery charges stemming from the July 21, 2025, incident.

According to the State, Chagwiza and three accomplices—who remain at large—broke into the home of Kundai Sundira during the early hours of the morning. The gang reportedly forced open the front door and stormed into the bedroom, where they woke Sundira and his wife, threatening to kill them.

The suspects tied up Sundira with shoelaces and demanded money before ransacking the house.

They allegedly made off with a haul of high-value items, including an iPhone 13 Pro, iPads, a MacBook Pro, Apple Watches, a JBL speaker, a Sony camera, an Acer laptop, a Samsung S10 Plus, an electric shaver, and US$311 in cash.

As the robbers fled, Sundira managed to untie himself and gave chase.

He caught up with Chagwiza, who was reportedly carrying a satchel full of stolen goods. During the struggle, Chagwiza allegedly struck Sundira with a broken bottle and sprayed him with pepper spray. Despite this, Sundira managed to overpower and detain him until police arrived.

Officers recovered several stolen items, including the Acer laptop, Samsung phone, and electric shaver from Chagwiza’s bag.

He was remanded in custody and is expected to appear in court again soon. Police say investigations are ongoing as the hunt continues for the remaining suspects.
