The Embassy of the Republic of Zimbabwe in Japan has launched an international cultural exchange programme titled “Become a Manga Artist in Japan,” in partnership with Jitsugyo no Nihon Sha Co. Ltd, Zaif INO, and Kaika Financial Holdings Co. Ltd.
The initiative, themed “Bringing Zimbabwe’s Talent to Japan,” aims to discover and support young Zimbabwean content creators with an interest in Japanese manga and animation.
The project introduces Zimbabwean manga artists to the Japanese market and provides them with opportunities to debut their work through publishing and global promotion. Cultural exchange events such as JAPANDAY and Otakukon regularly attract hundreds to thousands of participants.
The initiative seeks to tap into youth talent while creating personal growth opportunities. It comes at a time when Japan is facing a shortage of skilled workers and is looking to attract international talent, particularly in the entertainment and publishing sectors.
Key stakeholders in the partnership include the Zimbabwe Embassy in Japan, Jitsugyo no Nihon Sha Co. Ltd, Zaif INO, Kaika Financial Holdings Co. Ltd, and the Embassy of Japan in Zimbabwe.
“Young people in Zimbabwe continue to believe in the power of creativity, even in difficult environments. This project is an opportunity for them to share their stories with the world, and I believe it will serve as a bridge to connect us with the people of Japan,” said Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Japan, Stewart Nyakotyo.
Jitsugyo no Nihon Sha Co. Ltd will help Zimbabwean writers gain international recognition, introduce their content to Japanese readers, and support sustainable creative growth.
Zaif INO will promote manga through NFTs and digital assets, while Kaika Financial Holdings will support IT services through blockchain technology.
“Publishing is a job that delivers voices beyond countries and languages. Zimbabwean manga artists will be able to write stories in their own words and encounter Japanese readers. I believe that such encounters will foster the culture of the future,” said Yuichi Iwano, President and CEO of Jitsugyo no Nihon Sha Co. Ltd.
The collaboration is also expected to foster tourism, cultural exchange, and technology-based cooperation between the two countries.
