A 12-year-old boy from Mutema–Panganai Village in Chipinge District has received life-saving surgery in Chitungwiza, after enduring years of pain from a hernia. The procedure was made possible through Discovery Ambulance Services under the Presidential Emergency Medical Scheme.

The child, identified as Perfect Mashapa, had lived with the condition for more than a year. His family, struggling to make ends meet, could not afford the medical costs.

His father, Jasper Mashapa—an unemployed man raising six children—said he had approached both local clinics and churches for help, but without success. Clinics eventually referred the boy to hospitals in Mutare, but the family was unable to pay the required fees.

The matter was later taken up by ZANU–PF Ward 3 councillor Jenepha Dzambo, who escalated it to the area’s Member of Parliament. From there, Discovery Ambulance Services, working with the Ministry of Health and Child Care, facilitated the transfer and successful surgery at Chitungwiza General Hospital.

“My child suffered for more than a year. We had no money and no one to help us take him for the operation. Discovery stepped in, and I am grateful to their founder and to the President for improving the health system for families like ours,” said Mashapa.

On Saturday, Discovery Ambulance Services carried out further outreach at Tanganda Primary School (Pamuuyu) in Ward 4B, Mutema–Musikavanhu Constituency, where they offered free medical check-ups, consultations, and medicines to hundreds of villagers.

The event coincided with a ZANU–PF Inter-District meeting, which was attended by Manicaland Provincial Chairman Cde
