A marriage dispute has spilled into the courtroom, with a wife accusing her husband’s lover of assault and harassment, while the partner insists the wife is the aggressor.
Rudo Marufu took Catherine Pepai to the Harare Civil Court before magistrate Johanna Mukwesha, accusing her of constant harassment through calls and messages.
Marufu, who told the court she has been married for 17 years, said Pepai was interfering with her peace.
“We are legally married, and I live with my husband. She is lying that I go to her house harassing her. The only time I went there was when I was looking for my husband after our child got sick, and she lied that he was not there,” Marufu said.
She added that Pepai frequently taunted her over her marriage.
“She should stop calling and texting me. She calls saying my marriage papers do not make sense and that she is here until 2030,” she told the court.
Marufu further claimed she was once assaulted by Pepai.
“She assaulted me when I told her to get out of our family car, since my husband and I had worked for it,” she added.
Pepai, however, told the court that Marufu was the one harassing her.
“She says she will leave my kids on a railway line. She is the one who should apologize to me, because she is the one who calls me,” Pepai said.
Pepai admitted to assaulting Marufu but argued it was after Marufu came to her house with the husband’s brother.
“We have a pending matter. She breached a peace order that had already been granted,” she said.
The peace order was issued in Marufu’s favor.
