A 27-year-old man has appeared in court accused of violently robbing a motor vehicle after allegedly assaulting its owner and leaving him unconscious before stealing his white Nissan Caravan.

Trevor Tazvitya, of Waterfalls, appeared before magistrate Donald Ndirowei at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts facing a charge of robbery of a motor vehicle.

His bail application will be heard on September 3, 2025.

Prosecutor Ngonidzashe Kaseke told the court that on May 13, 2022, Tazvitya and an accomplice still at large ambushed the complainant outside the gate of his residence.

The complainant had parked his white Nissan Caravan (registration number AEL 1948) outside the gate and stepped out to open it, leaving the vehicle idling with the keys still in the ignition.

Tazvitya and his accomplice allegedly emerged from the darkness and struck the complainant on the upper left ear with an unknown object, knocking him unconscious. They then drove away with the vehicle.

The complainant later regained consciousness and reported the matter at ZRP Marlborough.

On August 29, detectives from CID Vehicle Theft Squad tracked down Tazvitya and arrested him at his residence.

They also recovered the stripped shell of the vehicle hidden at his father’s home in Overspill, Epworth.
