The Zimbabwe Republic Police has announced a major breakthrough with the arrest of Vengesai Jabulani Mutasa, 41, in connection with the murder of Detective Constable Courage Muchecheti in Sanyati.
Mutasa is also implicated in the killing of businessman Joseph Mutangadura earlier this year.
The dramatic arrest took place at ZRP Sanyati, bringing to an end a tense manhunt following the fatal shooting of Detective Constable Muchecheti, a member of the CID Homicide Unit.

According to police reports, Muchecheti was attempting to apprehend Mutasa for his suspected involvement in Mutangadura's August 2025 murder when he was shot dead.
After the killing, Mutasa allegedly robbed Abraham Mayavo of US$100 as he was filing a police report, further compounding the gravity of his crimes. Authorities have credited the swift cooperation and vigilance of residents from Sanyati, Kadoma, Chakari, and Patchway, whose collective efforts were instrumental in the suspect’s capture.
Commissioner Watiya, Officer Commanding CID, confirmed that further details will be released as investigations progress. “We commend the public for their vigilance and continued cooperation, which greatly assisted in the arrest of the suspect,” said Commissioner Watiya.
The ZRP reaffirmed its commitment to fighting violent crime and ensuring justice for victims, describing the arrest as a significant step toward restoring peace and public confidence.
