Scottland FC Boss Dismisses Allegations of “Buying PSL Title”

Scottland FC chairman Tonderai Sakupwanya

Scottland FC chairman Tonderai Sakupwanya has dismissed allegations circulating on social media that the club is attempting to influence the Premier Soccer League title race through financial backing of rivals Simba Bhora.

The claims suggest that Sakupwanya, through Scottland FC, allegedly provided Simba Bhora with US$100,000 under the guise of sponsorship for the CAF Champions League. He has categorically denied the reports, insisting that his team will compete for honours fairly on the pitch.

“We have been alerted to social media claims that Scottland FC president, Pedzai Sakupwanya, has given Simba Bhora US$100 000 disguised as CAF Champions League sponsorship,” Sakupwanya said.

“The insinuation is that it is a way of buying the PSL title race, which Simba Bhora currently leads. This is not true.”

He explained that Simba Bhora already has a standing sponsorship agreement with Betterbrands, which has been visible on their kits throughout the season.

That deal, he added, includes provisions to ensure the team is well-prepared to represent Zimbabwe in continental competition.

Sakupwanya further pointed out the irony that Scottland FC played Simba Bhora on Matchday 28, a match which ended in a result that left Scottland in second place.

“If we wanted to manipulate the title race, we could have taken advantage of that match. Instead, we were disappointed with the outcome,” he said.

The Scottland boss stressed that his club remains committed to fair play and will continue to fight for the league title on the field.

He also extended good wishes to Simba Bhora in their Champions League campaign, saying the nation should rally behind them as they carry Zimbabwe’s flag in Africa.
