Ras Pompy Jailed Six Months for Illegal Possession of Cough Syrups

Zimdancehall artist Nyasha Reginald Mano, popularly known as Ras Pompy, has been sentenced to six months in prison after being found in unlawful possession of cough syrups.

Ras Pompy was convicted under the Medicines and Allied Substances Control Act following a full trial before Harare Magistrate Gamuchirai Gore.

The court heard that on July 16, 2025, around 11 a.m., detectives from the CID Drugs Unit in Harare spotted a black Honda Fit (registration number AGS 6699) listed in their database of vehicles linked to drug distribution along Kambuzuma Road.

When signaled to stop, Ras Pompy reportedly sped off into the Rugare suburb, leading police on a brief chase. His car eventually hit a metal pole, allowing officers to apprehend him.

A subsequent search of Ras Pompy’s vehicle revealed about 100 bottles of cough syrup with a street value of approximately US$396. The seized products included 24 bottles of 100ml Broncleer cough syrup, 20 bottles of Benylin cough syrup, and 55 bottles of Astra Pain cough syrup.

Following his arrest, Ras Pompy was taken to the CID Drugs Unit in Harare. Police also seized the Honda Fit along with the syrups.
