Farmers must ensure a weed-free crop by going on a weed control blitz using to go on a weed control blitz using all available methods, Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Resettlement Permanent Secretary, John Basera, has said.

Basera said this in his Christmas message to farmers, where he added that weed pressure is responsible for about 50 percent maize yield loss.

“When everything is top-notch, weeds alone contribute to over 50 percent yield loss. Sharing this agro-nugget or tip is an act of kindness, love and the ultimate Christmas gift for every farmer. We are Going4YieldGrowth,” said Basera.

Basera also said that continued positive growth in the livestock sub-sector lies in strict adherence to critical touch points that will entrench the Going4Growth (G4G-2023) mantra in 2023, which include de-worming of all livestock, vaccinating against anthrax, Black Leg, Botulism and Lumpy Skin Disease.

“Religious weekly dipping in all areas and adoption of a 5-5-4 day dipping interval in January Disease hot spots, seasonal bulling, avoiding kraaling livestock in muddy kraals or paddocks and supplementary feeding is necessary for first calvers.

“Remember we are Going4LivestockGrowth in 2023,” added Basera.
