ZNA Chief of Staff Urges Youth to Shun Drugs

 

Major General Asher Walter Tapfumaneyi, the Zimbabwe National Army Chief of Staff, on Sunday  headlined the 2025 Traditional Leaders Day in Zaka District, where he stressed the central role of traditional leadership in fostering disciplined citizenry and curbing the escalating menace of drug abuse among the youth.

The annual celebration, aimed at recognising the contribution of traditional structures to national development, was hosted at Chief Nhema’s palace and attended by all the district’s traditional heads: Chief Nyakunhuwa, Chief Bota, Chief Ndanga, and Chief Nhema.

Major General Tapfumaneyi, who was the Guest of Honour, was accompanied by the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Ezra Chadzimira.

In his keynote address, Major General Tapfumaneyi underscored that traditional leadership principles provide the foundational framework necessary for molding better citizens. He issued a strong plea to young people across the district to refrain from substance abuse, warning that the societal decay caused by drugs threatens future nation-building efforts.

“Traditional leadership principles are important in molding better citizens and also encouraged youth to avoid drug abuse,” General Tapfumaneyi.

The event served as a cultural showcase for the district, featuring, cultural performances. Highlights included traditional dances, the meditative rhythms of mbira music, celebrating the rich heritage maintained by the area's traditional leaders.
