Seven Suspects Arrested Over Spate of Harare Robberies

The Zimbabwe Republic Police has arrested seven suspects believed to be behind a string of robberies that targeted commuters in Harare and surrounding areas between July and November 2025.

In a statement released yesterday, police confirmed the arrest of Tawanda Macheka, 30; Dennis Manyonga, 34; Kudzanai Tiriwani, 31; Leslie Mudenda, 31; Loreen Mundetani, 27; Kenneth Pick, 39; and Nyasha Gweshse, 33.

According to the ZRP, detectives from the CID Vehicle Theft Squad moved in on the suspects on 20 November following received intelligence, tracking and apprehending them at their respective residences.

Police say the group allegedly used different vehicles to lure unsuspecting commuters by pretending to be ordinary motorists headed to the victims' destinations.

“Investigations reveal that the suspects used different vehicles to target unsuspecting commuters, posing as genuine motorists travelling to the victims’ intended destinations,” the statement read. Once the victims were inside the vehicle, the suspects reportedly robbed them of cash, cellphones and other valuables before abandoning them.

The group is currently linked to 17 robbery cases, all of which followed a similar method. Officers say the suspects would ask victims to close car doors with both hands, creating an opening to search them and seize valuables.

Following the arrests, police recovered several stolen items, including smartphones, clothing and handbags.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police applauds members of the public for providing credible information that led to the arrest of the suspects,” the statement added.

Investigations are ongoing, and police say more arrests may follow as they continue to link the suspects to additional cases.
