
Police in Harare have arrested a 31-year-old man who allegedly pretended to be a police officer and solicited bribes from motorists in the central business district.
The suspect, Lloyd Chinhoyi, was nabbed on 28 November 2025 after officers on patrol became suspicious of his conduct. Chinhoyi was reportedly dressed in full police uniform and was stopping motorists under the guise of conducting traffic enforcement checks.

According to police, Chinhoyi used the fake authority to demand money from drivers in exchange for avoiding prosecution for traffic offences.
He was immediately taken into custody and is expected to face charges of impersonating a police officer and extortion.
Authorities have urged the public to report any suspicious behaviour by individuals purporting to be law enforcement officers, emphasising that genuine police officers carry proper identification and follow standard procedures during operations.
