Goromonzi District was filled with smiles, gratitude and festive cheer on Friday as Prospect Lithium Zimbabwe donated Christmas food hampers to 52 elderly people and 48 persons living with disabilities.
The gesture, which has become an annual tradition in the area, brought relief and joy to some of the most vulnerable community members at a time when many were uncertain about how they would celebrate Christmas.
Speaking during the handover, Ward Councillor Peter Million expressed appreciation to the mining company for its continued support.
“We thank Prospect Lithium Zimbabwe and other foreign investors who have become our relatives,” said Councillor Million. “You have shown that you truly care for our people by recognising our elderly and those living with disabilities. We also appreciate your continued employment of local youths, which helps keep them away from drug and substance abuse. This kind of support builds a stronger and safer community.”
Prospect Lithium Zimbabwe ESG Director Yu Long said the company was honoured to share the Christmas spirit with the people of Goromonzi.
“The Christmas season is a time for giving, unity and compassion,” he said. “As Prospect Lithium Zimbabwe, we believe progress is meaningful only when it uplifts surrounding communities. Our presence here is not just about mining lithium, but about building relationships and ensuring no one is left behind.”
He paid tribute to the elderly and persons living with disabilities, describing them as valued members of the community whose strength and resilience deserved recognition.

Traditional leadership also applauded the company’s development-driven approach. Chief Chinyika of Goromonzi District thanked Prospect Lithium Zimbabwe for its consistent assistance and visible impact.
“I want to thank Prospect Lithium Zimbabwe for recognising my people,” he said. “You have helped us greatly this season, including improving our roads. I encourage my people to work hard and continue farming so that we improve food security in our communities.”
Among the beneficiaries was Ambuya Jane Mapiye of Ward 13 Jongwe Farm, who said the donation lifted a heavy burden.
“I was worried about what I was going to cook on Christmas Day, but now I am very thankful,” she said. “May God continue to bless their work.”
Ambuya Mapiye lives with her 10-year-old grandchild and survives through gardening, though age now limits her ability to do heavy work.
For Tafadzwa Ben, who lives with a disability, the hamper restored a sense of dignity.
“I am very happy to receive this Christmas hamper,” he said. “At least this year, my sister-in-law will receive something meaningful through my name. I usually only help by herding cattle, so this means a lot to me.”
As the hampers were distributed, laughter, prayers and gratitude filled the air. Many beneficiaries described the gesture as a blessing that restored hope and reminded them they were not forgotten, reinforcing Prospect Lithium Zimbabwe’s commitment to community, compassion and inclusion.
