63-Year-Old steals Cellphone from Mourning Relative

 

A 63-year-old man from Tsholotsho, Field Nkiwane, has been sentenced to 210 hours of community service after being convicted of stealing a cellphone from his brother-in-law during a funeral.

The court heard that on October 30, 2025, Nkiwane took advantage of the sombre occasion to steal a cellphone worth US$150 from the 66-year-old victim, who is his brother-in-law.

After reporting the theft to the police, the victim later received a call from a man who had been approached by Nkiwane to unlock and flash the stolen phone.

Suspicious of the circumstances, the man contacted the rightful owner, leading to the swift involvement of the police.

Nkiwane was subsequently arrested, and the stolen cellphone was recovered.

He was sentenced to six months in prison, wholly suspended on condition that he completes 210 hours of community service.
