Horticulture Exports Triple in 2025

Zimbabwe’s horticultural export earnings more than tripled in 2025, surging to US$181.7 million from US$59.8 million recorded in 2024, according to figures released by ZimTrade.

The year-on-year growth of over 200 percent was largely driven by the rapid expansion of blueberry exports, which have emerged as the single largest contributor to horticultural export earnings. Rising demand for other high-value fresh produce also supported the sector’s strong performance.

“Horticultural exports recorded significant growth in 2025, driven mainly by blueberries, which continue to gain traction in high-value international markets,” ZimTrade said.

Data from the trade development body shows that horticulture has become one of Zimbabwe’s fastest-growing export categories, with blueberries accounting for the bulk of the increase in export value. Expanded production, improved yields and better access to premium markets have underpinned the growth.

The export surge reflects increased investment in export-oriented horticulture, improvements in production capacity and sustained global demand for fresh produce, particularly in Europe and the Middle East, which remain Zimbabwe’s key destination markets.

In 2024, horticulture exports were constrained by lower output and limited market access, making the 2025 performance a sharp turnaround for the sector.
