The Ministry of Skills Audit and Development has initiated a comprehensive skills audit of Zimbabwe’s industry and manufacturing sector in what officials describe as a strategic intervention to accelerate industrial productivity.
In a statement, the Ministry said it met with the Ministry of Industry and Commerce “to discuss a comprehensive skills audit of Zimbabwe's industry & manufacturing sector,” signalling the start of a nationwide assessment of workforce capacity in key productive sectors.

The Ministry characterised the initiative as “a game-changer,” positioning the audit as central to Zimbabwe’s ambition of attaining upper middle-income status.
According to the Ministry, the exercise will “identify critical skills gaps slowing down industrial output” and “align workforce training to real sector needs.” It added that a properly certified and industry-aligned workforce would help “attract Foreign Direct Investment with a skilled, certified workforce.”
Zimbabwe’s manufacturing sector has faced persistent capacity constraints in recent years, including outdated equipment, foreign currency shortages and limited technological upgrading. Industry bodies have repeatedly cited shortages in specialised technical skills, particularly in engineering, advanced manufacturing and industrial automation, as a barrier to scaling production.
