Fake Online Job Lures Teen Into Rape Ordeal

 

 

Police have urged the public to exercise extreme caution when responding to online job offers after a 19-year-old woman was allegedly sexually abused in Glen View 7 following contact with a stranger posing as a recruiter.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirmed that the incident occurred on February 9, 2026, after the victim responded to an online employment opportunity.

According to police, the suspect contacted the victim and arranged to meet her at Machipisa Shopping Centre before taking her to a house in Glen View 7, where the alleged sexual abuse occurred.

The victim was reportedly released on February 10, 2026, and investigations are currently underway.

The case has heightened concern over the growing use of social media and online platforms by criminals targeting young job seekers, particularly amid high youth unemployment.

Police reiterated that members of the public should verify job offers through official channels and avoid meeting unknown individuals in isolated areas. 

They also encouraged anyone with information that may assist investigations to report to the nearest police station.
