Gospel minister, worship leader and musician Sharon Manyonganise-Cherayi is set to bring women together for a two-day spiritual retreat aimed at promoting healing, renewal and personal reflection.
The retreat, dubbed “The Great Exchange”, will be held on September 4 and 5 at Glen City Campus Retreat in Ruwa, with proceedings starting at 5pm on Friday.
The gathering is being positioned as a space where women can step away from the demands and pressures of everyday life, reconnect with God, and find time to rest and reflect.
Cherayi said the idea behind the retreat was to create an environment where women could “just breathe” and experience spiritual renewal.
“It’s all about women gathering to just breathe… to pause, breathe, rest, reconnect, self-introspect and be refreshed and renewed by the presence of the Lord,” she said.
She said the retreat would encourage women to surrender their burdens and exchange stress, fatigue and silent struggles for peace, grace, joy and a renewed sense of purpose.

The initiative comes as Cherayi continues to expand her ministry beyond music, having established herself as one of Zimbabwe’s notable contemporary gospel voices. She was previously part of Zimpraise, where she became known for her contribution to the choir’s worship ministry, including the popular song Sungano. She later pursued her own music career, releasing projects such as Rudo Rwajesu and Praise Be to God.
Her musical journey has included collaborations with several prominent gospel musicians. In 2015, she collaborated with Mathias Mhere on Ephiziba, a song that received significant attention from local gospel audiences.
Cherayi has also continued to release and perform worship music in recent years. In 2025, she released Huya, while her live worship performances have continued to attract audiences both in Zimbabwe and beyond. Her 2025 live recording, Zvimbiso, was released as part of the God the Lifter of Men project, with Cherayi serving as one of the executive producers and providing lead vocals on the song.
Her growing profile was further reflected in 2026 when she was nominated for Outstanding Female Musician at the National Arts Merit Awards alongside Nisha Ts and Shashl.
According to Cherayi, the selection of speakers for The Great Exchange was deliberate, with the organisers seeking to create a bridge between seasoned wisdom and the experiences of younger women.
“We wanted people who have experienced what we are experiencing and what we are yet to experience… so we can listen to them, learn how to navigate life, relationships, marriage and purpose,” she said.
“There has to be a balance between seasoned wisdom and the younger generation.”
