The University of Zimbabwe played host to a thrilling display of emerging athletic talent at the NAAZ Junior Championships Qualifiers. Young athletes from various schools, clubs, and individual competitors converged on the venue, all vying for a coveted spot at the National Championships.
The track events were a highlight, with sprinters exploding off the starting blocks, middle-distance runners showcasing their endurance, and relay teams demonstrating speed and teamwork. The field events were equally impressive, with youngsters soaring through the air and displaying strength and precision in the throwing events.

Harare Athletics Board Chairperson Cousinet Simunyu praised the athletes' efforts and commitment. "It was impressive as the young athletes displayed a lot of energy and determination," she said. Simunyu highlighted the significance of athletes from different backgrounds competing together. "Having athletes from different backgrounds coming together shows their focus is second to none, and they really want to qualify and represent their country at various meets," she said.
Simunyu emphasised the importance of such competitions for the development of athletics in Zimbabwe. "These competitions are key to the nation as it gives us a foresight as we look at National Championships, National Youth Games, Region 5 Games, and other international meets," she added.
The event showcased the depth of upcoming athletic talent and demonstrated that the future of athletics in Zimbabwe is bright, with young competitors rising through the ranks with passion and determination.
