Bosso’s Winless Run Raises Pressure on Mwaruwari

Highlanders head coach Benjamin Mwaruwari  admitted that he is working under difficult circumstances at the Bulawayo giants as the club continues to search for its first win of the season.

Bosso have drawn all four of their opening matches in the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League and currently sit in 12th position on the standings, a start that has already placed the former Warriors captain under scrutiny from sections of the club’s demanding supporters.

Speaking in a recent interview, Mwaruwari revealed that his arrival at the club was not universally welcomed, saying he has had to deal with resistance since taking charge.

“I’m sorry to say this, but I have to be open with some of the things that are happening,” said the Highlanders coach. “I’ve been working in difficult conditions. Everyone didn’t want me here. That’s a fact.”

The former Manchester City striker was appointed Highlanders head coach in January 2026 in a move that generated significant debate within the football community. The appointment came amid a dramatic change in the club’s technical direction after South African coach Thabo Senong had only recently been unveiled for the role.

However, Highlanders executives travelled to Harare for discussions with businessman and club benefactor Wicknell Chivayo, who had pledged financial backing to the club on condition that Mwaruwari be appointed head coach. As part of the proposal, Chivayo reportedly offered to cover the coach’s salary and support the technical team as Bosso sought to rebuild ahead of the 2026 season.

The decision sparked mixed reactions among supporters, with some questioning the sudden shift in leadership and the circumstances surrounding Senong’s removal. However, the club later confirmed Mwaruwari’s appointment, describing the former international striker as a respected football figure capable of guiding the team into a new era.

Despite the pressure surrounding his appointment and the team’s slow start to the campaign, the Highlanders coach insists he remains focused on improving results and stabilising the squad as the season progresses.
