Govt probes ZTA board, management

Government has set up a five-member committee to probe the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority Board and management over allegations that they were paying themselves grocery and holiday allowances during the Covid-19 period.

The committee was appointed by Minister of Environment, Climate, Tourism and Hospitality Industry Mangaliso Ndlovu and it is expected to establish the facts, whether the suspected allowances were authorised, and establish if they were legal under the Public Entities Corporate Governance Act.

The secretary of the committee is the Deputy Director responsible for human resources in the ministry, Osward Chihombori.

The committee is chaired by Permanent Secretary for Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Simon Masanga, while the other members are chief director in the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development George Chijarira, chief internal auditor in the Ministry of Energy and Power Development N Shava, director in the Attorney-General’s Office Rudo Makunike, and chief director in the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works Emmanuel Ngwarati.

Winnie Muchanyuka is the current Chief Executive Officer of ZTA while Givemore Chidzidzi is the chief operating officer.

The ZTA board is chaired by Ray Mawerera, who is deputised by Dr Precious Sibiya while the other members of the board are Rita Likukuma, Beatrice Tonhodzayi, Veneranda Munyoro, Tare Munzara, Precious Mazhande and Admire Ndlovu.

Muchanyuka sits on the board by virtue of her position.
