A Harare woman has been granted a protection order against her ex-husband after accusing him of continued verbal and emotional abuse following the breakdown of their marriage.
Linosa Chikana told the Harare Civil Court that her ex-husband, Norman James, had been harassing her since they separated a year ago.
"We separated last year, but the other time I went to his house to collect my belongings... he then started assaulting me," she said.
Chikana also alleged that James sent her abusive voice notes and physically assaulted her during their relationship.
"When we were still together he used to abuse me to the extent of going to hospital and I reported the case to the police," she said.

James denied the allegations, claiming Chikana continued to visit him.
"She is the one who comes to me. She comes and sleeps with me before going to the other man," he told the court.
He said they share a child and opposed the application.
"We have a child together. I need to see my child, so I am not in agreement with the protection order," he said.
The magistrate granted the protection order, ordering James to stop verbally and physically abusing Chikana, and urged both parties to live peacefully.
