Ten teams will battle for top honours tomorrow as the Cimas Healthathon 3.0 reaches its grand finale in Harare, showcasing technology-driven solutions to Zimbabwe’s healthcare challenges.
The finalists emerged after months of screening, presentations, mentorship and refinement of their ideas.
The finale, set for August 28 at Cimas Health Group’s head office in Borrowdale, will run under the theme “Reimagining Healthcare Through Disruptive Innovation.”
This year’s competition attracted 372 submissions from innovators, start-ups, researchers, students and technology enthusiasts across Zimbabwe.
The proposed solutions have focused on areas including diagnostics, preventive healthcare, artificial intelligence, rural healthcare, rehabilitation, data protection and emergency response.

Cimas Health Group Chief Information Officer Foster Akaketwa said the competition was intended to help promising ideas progress beyond the event through validation, partnerships, incubation and potential pilot programmes.
“The real success of Healthathon will be when an idea developed through this challenge moves beyond the competition and begins making a measurable difference in people’s lives,” Akaketwa said.
The finalists will pitch their solutions to a panel comprising Cimas Health Group executives and external experts from the healthcare, technology, innovation and industry sectors.
The winner will receive US$3,500, while the second- and third-placed teams will receive US$2,000 and US$1,500 respectively.
Beyond the prize money, the competition offers innovators an opportunity to have their ideas considered for real-world application as Zimbabwe seeks to improve healthcare access, affordability, data management and service delivery.
The focus now shifts to the 10 finalists as they make their final pitches in the race to shape the future of healthcare through technology.
