The National Gallery of Zimbabwe will host the Finissage and Awards ceremony of the Zimbabwe Visual Arts Awards at its gallery in Harare.
The awards will honour the outstanding creations of artists with expertise in various creations which include painting, design, sculpting and architecture.
NGZ executive director Raphael Chikukwa said the Zimbabwe visual arts awards is just like the Zimbabwe Heritage exhibition that used to take place at the gallery.
“This rebranding is key for this exhibition to honour those who enter the exhibition and be rewarded for the work they do. It's our hope that this is motivation for artists to keep working and also inspiring young artists.
“As a national institution, we are a platform for artists hence a call to such a group exhibition is key to the development of contemporary art.
“Artists must know that if you don't exhibit, you don't exist. There is no gallery without artists and audiences,” he said.
Chikukwa revealed that winners will be announced and will walk away with surprises to add value to the already good work they are already doing.
The annual Zimbabwe Heritage Exhibitions were a pointer for artistic innovation and introduced many new artists to the visual arts field every year.
