The Meteorological services Department has warned of heavy rains and flash flooding in the southern and eastern parts of the country beginning today up to February 15.
In a statement yesterday, the MSD said there will be localised heavy rains in excess of 50mm with lightning and hailstorms in some places.
The MSD said people should watch out for blown-off rooftops, loose debris and uprooted trees due to strong winds.
“Watch out for open drains and potholes that may be covered in water. Stay indoors during thunderstorms unless if it is an emergency,” the MSD warned.
The rains, the statement added, may affect outdoor activities and people should plan with that in mind.
The MSD said that people should minimise travel, but if they have to travel, they must exercise caution as visibility may be compromised, adding that people must avoid crossing flooded rivers.
Early last month, heavy rains left a trail of destruction in several places such as Gokwe, Kadoma, Bindura and parts of Manicaland and Masvingo where it left people dead and damaged infrastructure.
The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education barred boarders from travelling to their schools owing to flood dangers in some places.
