Lower Sixth learners are expected to start their Advanced Level classes on Monday February 13, 2023 after the release of Ordinary Level results early last week.
Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education director of Communications and Advocacy, Taungana Ndoro said school authorities and parents are reminded that fees be it tuition or boarding — will be paid on a pro-rata basis, that will see the incoming learners pay less than the rest who started classes last month.
“We have decided that they resume their studies this coming Monday. We don’t want our learners idling around aimlessly and falling victim to social ills like initiation into drug abuse,” he said.
He said that the past year or so, the school calendar was disrupted by Covid-19 mitigatory measures, particularly as it relates to face-to-face learning, therefore the ministry is opting for an immediate class resumption as a way of maximising learning.
“We do not expect any disruptions on reopening and in the learning process. Schools must take note that since this group is coming in to join others who started on January 9, their fees will be charged on a pro-rata basis,” he said.
Ndoro said the ministry is encouraging learners to take three subjects and in cases where some see the need then they can go for four than taking a lot of subjects.
The first term opened on January 9, 2023, and the government continues to call on schools to abide by Covid-19 mechanisms set by the World Health Organisation.
