The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Development has said it has noted that congestion along the Flyover and Sakubva Bridge in Mutare, along the Chimanimani Road is being worsened by the breakdown of heavy trucks on the flyover section.

This comes after Mutare-based journalist, Clayton Masekesa wrote a letter to the President regarding the issue of congestion at the mentioned area.

In response, the Ministry said, “We have submitted a proposal to the office of the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution (Manicaland), to consider rerouting heavy trucks as a way of reducing congestion on the flyover Sakubva section, and we will meet with Mutare City Council to finalise on the issue, but there is a possible route that may work out well.”

On the issue of Sakubva Bridge, it said plans are also underway to construct a rail over bridge flyover and currently it is conducting topographical surveys in order to come up with the designs.

Masekesa had wrote: “I am now taking the bull by its horns and write directly to you, Mr President. I know that you will be in Bocha today, 8th March, 2023, at St Noah Boarding School for the fund raising and ground-breaking ceremony.

“It is therefore, my humble plea to you, Cde President Sir, to spare a thought for the people of Mutare and pass through the Railways Flyover and Blue Star Bridge for you to have a true glimpse and indication of how the situation has become dire.

“Surely, you will be concerned with the horror and nightmare at this flyover and bridge. therefore, my Lord, my request to you to immediately declare the Railways Flyover and Blue Star Bridge total rehabilitation and refurbishment as a first priority and state of emergency.”

The Flyover and Sakubva bridge congestion have become a nightmare for many motorists and commuters, as it has been causing grave inconveniences.
