Scores of families have been left homeless and stranded after being evicted from the Koala Park Abattoir compound along Seke Road and left on the roadside with their properties.
The people were reportedly chased from the land to make way for the company which bought the land.
The families were served with a three-month eviction notice.
Speaking to Zim Now, Harare South MP Hon Tongai Mngangagwa said the matter is being handled by lawyers.
“We are doing everything we can to help the people. We have forwarded the matter to our lawyers, who are reviewing the issue.
“It is unfortunate that families lost properties and homes but the land was sold to a company and they want to use their land so there is nothing we can do to stop them but to assist the evicted families.
“We need a little more time to allocate them new places. We are doing our best to help them.
Lidness Chanetsa, who lives at the Koala Park Abattoir compound, said the people were given notice when the company that bought the land decided that they now want to use the land.
“I’m yet to find out what is really going on but these evicted families are not Koala Abattoir workers but were just living in the compound. They were given three months’ notice by the company management,” she said.
Chanetsa also said some of Koala’s employees might also face eviction from the compound.
