Chitungwiza community-based rugby club, Southern City Redds has put out a call for sponsors in the wake of affiliation fees and transport costs they incur every weekend as they do not have a playing ground.
Speaking to Zim Now, club chairman, Carlton Majuru said they are need of sponsorship as they need to pay US$500 for affiliation fees before league games start on April 15, 2023.
“Currently, we are looking at raising league affiliation fees as well as transport and food during our current season as we do not have a playing ground. Hence, we are supposed to travel every weekend for our games.
“As we are a local community sports club, our major source of revenue is generated from membership fees and donations received from generous individuals and businesses. These funds are then reinvested into the club for the benefit of all members,” he said.
He added that the fact that they do not have a ground has resulted in few people knowing the club as no one has ever seen them playing.
For Harare-based games, the club mostly folks out US$100 to cover for transport and refreshments.
Majuru said the club aims to promote the code of rugby by ensuring that talented youths within the town participate in an organised fashion under the club as it strives to provide opportunities for everyone in our community to participate in healthy, safe and inclusive rugby activities in a fun and family-orientated environment.
“The Club is a registered entity within the Zimbabwe Rugby structures and is managed by dedicated volunteer staff, all who tirelessly provide their skills, time and assistance to ensure the club can offer a variety of structured programmes,” he added.
Southern City Redds endeavours to create an environment that puts family values at the forefront and prides itself on acting with integrity, innovation, and teamwork.
He added that sponsors of Southern City Redds are guaranteed brand/product/service promotion throughout the club and wider community at every opportunity.
“If you would like to donate to Southern City Redds, please feel free to contact the club and discuss ways in which you or your business can assist,” he added.
