A Glenview man, Lawrence Taurai Jena, 47, who was part of a team that sold a non-existant stand was before the courts Monday, charged with fraud.

The State alleges that in October, 2022, Tinashe Musuwa who is the complainant in the matter was looking for a medium density residential stand to buy.

He went to Tombani Mupfuki a commodity broker for assistance in looking for the stand.

Mupfuki directed Musuwa to Jena who is the founder of Hukuru Housing Development Trust whom he knew as a real estate agent.

On October 28, 2022, Musuwa went to Hukuru Housing Development Trust where he met Jena and his accomplice, Tonderai Katsa, who was posing as an agent to the owner of the stand, Innocent Maposa, who is also an accomplice in the case.

Jena and Katsa took Musuwa and showed him the physical stand number 2586 New Msasa Park, Harare, measuring 920 square meters which the two stated it belonged to Maposa.

Musuwa became interested in the stand which was being sold at US$18 000 and signed an agreement of sale with Maposa.

Musawa paid US$8 800 to Jena as deposit and Maposa confirmed to have ceded the residential stand to Musuwa through an affidavit.

On November 11, 2022, Musuwa went to the stand and discovered that there was one Rameck Bofu who was staying at the stand and claiming ownership of the same.

Musuwa quickly realised he had been swindled and went to Hatfield Police Station where he made a report leading to the arrest of Maposa and Katsa.

Investigations that were done showed that Jena and his accomplices sold stand number 2566  Msasa Park, whilst on the actual ground they were showing Musuwa stand number 2586, Msasa Park, Harare which is contrary to the agreement of sale.

It was also realised that no stand amongst the two stands belonged to Jena and his accomplices.

Residential stand 2566 Msasa Park belongs to one Brian Mvundura and stand number 2586 in the same residence belongs to Rameck Bofu.

Confirmation of ownership was obtained from Mukuvisi Tashinga Housing Cooperative which allocated the residential stands.

The magistrate who presided over the matter remanded Jena to May 23, 2023 pending Investigations.
