Suspended Zimbabwe Football Association president Felton Kamambo and four other members of the board also on suspension have requested, through their legal representatives Rubaya and Chatambudza Legal Practitioners, Parliament to investigate Minister of Youth, Sports Arts and Culture Kirsty Coventry.
This follows the report given by Coventry in Parliament last week alleging that Kamambo, Philemon Machana, Brighton Malandule, Stanley Chapeta and Joseph Mamutse were suspended on the basis of sexual harassment and the US$2 million given to Zifa which was never accounted for.
In a letter directed to the Speaker of Parliament, Advocate Jacob Mudenda, Rubaya and Chabata Legal Practitioners said the Parliament should probe Minister Coventry for the remarks she made before Parliament.
“Our clients believe in the decorum of the Legislative House and have been advised that it is an offence in terms of Parliament rules for a sworn member of Parliament to utter falsehoods knowing such to be untrue, with clear intention to mislead and that such misconduct is an act of contempt of Parliament punishable if such can be proven.
“Our clients instruct us to request that the Parliament institutes processes to investigate whether the Minister had deliberately misled the Parliament. Our clients are convinced that the Minister did not tell the truth.
“They are further of a firm view that accountability and truthfulness are pillars that are at the heart of the Parliament of Zimbabwe’s operations.
“Our clients are confident that you are going to put the Honourabe Minister to task in relation to the false statements made in the August House,” reads the letter.
Kamambo and the other suspended members said they are committed, if required, to present their submissions before Parliament and, or, any of its committees to prove that indeed the Minister misled Parliament.
