Castle Lager returns for the 63rd time to host this year’s edition of the Castle Tankard Horse Race in partnership with long standing partner Mashonaland Turf Club, on May 6.
The event will be held at Borrowdale Race-Course in Harare, and will run from 9am to 8pm.
In a statement, the organisers of the Castle Tankard said the event is, and continues to be the only Grade One horse racing event in the country.
“With USD$50,000 in stakes, the day will be packed with excitement as the finest horses jostle to win the ultimate trophy. Last year, the four-year-old True Beauty was the winner of the day, and we are excited to see the fate of this years’ field unfold.
“All preparations for the day are well underway, and the whole country is invited to come and enjoy this day with us.
“Cold and refreshing beer, sizzling braai, and lots of entertainment is lined up for our loyal consumers and horse racing enthusiasts as they look on and enjoy the day with their friends,” reads a statement from the organisers.
The event will include performances by Alick Macheso and Enzo Ishall, supported on the decks by DJ Naida, Etherton B, DJ Andile Brown, DJ Rush and many other artists.
The event is the most prestigious and sought-after title by horse owners, trainers and jockeys in Zimbabwe, while also commanding the interest and participation of the same from across the region.
