Matchday Memories video : The Day Sky Blues’ Bulawayo Bullet’ Peter Ndlovu wasted Wombles!!

CCFPA - On April 27 in 1996 Ron Atkinson‘s Sky Blues travelled to Crystal Palace‘s ground, Selhurst Park to meet the displaced Wimbledon FC club with the Sky Blues desperately needing points in a relegation dog fight with only a home game against Leeds United left to finish the season. They had got a point in a goalless draw at Nottingham Forest last time out to edge out of the bottom three.

Way back at the end of the previous November the Sky Blues and the Dons had fought out an exciting 3-3 draw with City having to come back from 3-1 down. Their scorers at Highfield Road were an own goal (on fourteen minutes), a second from (now CCFPA member) Dion Dublin (67) and then David Rennie grabbed an equaliser seven minutes from time.

However, on this day it was the Sky Blues ‘Bulawayo Bullet’, Zimbabwean striker Peter Ndlovu who did the trick at the sharp end with a second half brace (on 51 & 89 minutes).

The Sky Blues team won the club three precious points in London, sending the nearly seven thousand City fans among the 15,796 crowd back up to the Midlands very happy.
