A 44-year-old Bulawayo man was sentenced to seven years in prison for armed robbery.
Dingani Mpofu, entered the victims’ home in Iminyela, Bulawayo by jumping over the gate armed with a pistol.
Once inside, Mpofu claimed he had entered the home to escape people who wanted to kill him.
Mpofu reportedly then pointed the pistol at a teenage girl and other family members, forcing them to lie on the floor before demanding a T-shirt worth $5, which the victims surrendered to him.
He detained the family, including three minors, for approximately four hours inside the home before going away, leaving his jacket behind.
Police identified and arrest Mpofu after the victims reported the robbery.

Two years of the sentence were suspended on the condition that Mpofu does not commit a similar crime in the next five years, bringing Mpofu’s effective prison term to five years.
