CAZ appeals for contributions in kind towards event to celebrate breast cancer fighters and survivors

The Cancer Association of Zimbabwe appealing for donations towards its high tea event to celebrate breast cancer fighters and survivors.

CAZ is appealing for items like cakes, water, juices, PA system, entertainment and other logistical support.

October is internationally reserved for breast cancer awareness with emphasis on early and regular screening as well as support for the affected.

Cancer has become one of Zimbabwe’s leading causes of death with breast and cervical cancers the most prevalent in women.

According to Globocan 2020, Zimbabwe had 1 843 new breast cancer cases in 2020 and 924 deaths the same year. There were an estimated 2.26 million global cases of breast cancer.

Breast cancer can be treated through radiotherapy, chemotherapy, surgery, hormonal and biological therapy.

Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals is one of the two public health institutions in Zimbabwe that offers cancer treatment including surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy.

CAZ Cancer Centre in Harare was formed by a group of cancer survivors and volunteers in a bid to support each other morally, emotionally, spiritually and physically.

Since the inception of this service, the Centre has continued to grow in providing cancer support services and cancer awareness programmes.

It is committed to empowering clients and their families and help them develop a positive attitude to the disease during diagnosis and treatment.
