One of the leading theatre companies for new writing, Fifth World, is seeking young people to take part in a series of workshops in Nottingham.
The workshops range from photography and filmmaking to training in interview techniques and oral history.
Contestants will be mentored under professionals in photography, and filmmakers. Those selected will use their training to interview Zimbabweans and document their experiences, which will be dramatised by a professional playwright.
In 2023, these young people will shadow professional directors, actors and sound engineers during the recording process of the audio plays.
A pop-up digital installation will then be produced showcasing the audio plays which will go to five Nottingham libraries in March 2023 for a national tour with Fifth Word’s new production “We Need New Names,” an adaptation by Mufaro Makubika of the Booker-shortlisted novel by NoViolet Bulawayo.
Fifth World Artistic Director, Laura Ford said the company is excited to launch the project to uncover stories of migration from people who moved from Zimbabwe to Nottingham.
The workshops will take place between Monday 17 and Friday 28 October at St Ann’s library and Nottingham Playhouse.
