A Zimbabwe Open University accounting clerk, who was concealing transactions that had taken place and took the money for her own benefit, has appeared in court.

Agatha Namatai Mondiwa, 29, of Peace of Chingford Farm appeared before the Harare Magistrates’ Courts charged with corruptly concealing a transaction from a principal.

The court was informed that, from March 2023 to May 17, 2023, Mondiwa, those duties include receiving money from clients and receipting it took a new receipt book from her office and the batches were not in use and receipted it to clients instead of using the current receipt book.

This was revealed when one Mavis Makaza received requisitions from lecturers who were claiming their money after conducting short courses from outside clients.

When Makaza checked the requisition forms she noticed receipt numbers that were issued with US$1 000 and US$240 respectively in which the book was in the range of receipt books not being used.

She became suspicious and then checked on the banking schedules and realised that the money was not banked neither were the receipts recorded.

She then engaged her other colleagues and searched the office which is used by Mondiwa and recovered the receipt book. They checked it and realised that there were more receipts that had been issued using the book and she had taken the money for her personal use.

The amount of money that was prejudiced was US$1 210.

Mondiwa was ordered to appear in court on August 29.
