A Chitungwiza man who allegedly defrauded the complainant of his Mercedes Benz in exchange for a non-existent stand has appeared before magistrate Dennis Mangosi.
Brian Ncube, 39, of Unit F, Seke Chitungwiza appeared before the Harare Magistrates’ Courts charged with fraud.
The State, through prosecutor Grace Mugocheke, alleges that sometime in December 2021, the complainant in this matter, Bernard Mungara, was looking for a residential stand to buy and he was referred to Ncube by his friend Tafadzwa Savanhu.
Mungara met Ncube at Chikwanha Business Centre in Chitungwiza and he told him that he had a 500-square metre stand Number 11205 St Mary's he was selling for US$11 000.
Ncube then showed Mungara a Chitungwiza Municipality offer letter which confirmed that he was the owner of the stand in question.
Mungara became interested and used his Mercedes Benz 4matic 280CDI, which he valued at US$12 000 and Ncube was to pay Mungara the difference of US$1 000.
They both did not sign the agreement of sale as they agreed that they would do that after Mungara had completed the change of ownership of the stand.
Mungara went to Chitungwiza Municipality for verification purposes and was informed that the stand in question did not belong to Ncube.
Mungara realised that he had been duped and made a police report, leading to Ncube's arrest.
The total value that Mungara was prejudiced of was US$12 000 and nothing was recovered.
Mangosi ordered Ncube to appear in court tomorrow for bail ruling.
