Christopher Martin, a revered Jamaican Afro Dancehall artist, jetted into the country late afternoon Thursday, October 6, ahead of Emegy Sylvester Chizanga (Freeman)’s album launch on which they collaborated on a track.
He (Freeman) has always hero-worshipped Martin and their working on a project together and celebrating its coming to life is a dream fulfilled for the HKD boss.
Their song together, Zimbabwean Queen, makes one of twelve others comprising Freeman’s ninth EP titled David and Goliath. Other songs include Komborera, Ndibvunzewo, David and Goliath (title track), Mukuru, Mjolo, Distance (feat Poptain), Nizabwela (feat Towela) and Wakadyiswa (feat Nyasha David).
“Boooom!!!!! The singer just landed,” posted Freeman upon welcoming the Jamaican at the Robert Mugabe International Airport, after which they posed for photographs.
The launch, penciled in for Alexandra Sports Club on Saturday, October 8, will be curtain-raised by Bazooker, Mbeu, Baba Harare, Kikky Badass, Trevor Dongo and Pumacol, among others.
Signed with VP Records, the 35 year-old St Catherine-based Martin niched his musical career at a tender age, winning such awards as The Jamaican Observer Teenage Choice Awards.
He has done numerous collaborations with the A-list of reggae musicians and during an edition of the Air Jamaica Jazz Festival, he performed with Michael Bolton. He says his inspiration are his parents, Cleveland and Maxine Martin.
His most popular albums are Big Deal and And Then.
