"We can confirm that our team has arrested an armed male person at Golden Peacock this morning. However, we are still conducting investigations and we will alert on further details," said a spokesperson from Manicaland ZRP.
A source from the hotel who spoke on condition of anonymity said that Fidza who was driving a kombi forcibly drove his way into the hotel premises where he interrupted a meeting in one of the hotel's conference meetings.
"There was a conference meeting going on when this guy forced his way in. People started running everywhere. It was not clear what he wanted, but some identified him as an associate of Esau Mupfumi's.," said the source.
Rumours said that the man who has since been identified as "Fidza" was looking for Esau Mupfumi in the hotel.
Esau Mupfumi confirmed to Zim Now that he knew Fidza and he was indeed a former worker. He however distanced himself with the incident and alleged that Fidza was most probably after a different target over a personal matter.
"I know the guy, he used to be one of my drivers. I have heard about what he has done at Golden Peacock. I have no connection with that as I no longer associate with him.
“However, I have heard that his wife cheated on him so that may be the reason why he stormed Golden Peacock," said Mupfumi.
ZRP said they could not give more information as preliminary investigations were still in progress.
